Cabinet for Bruce Tao
Pagoda is a modern cabinet that opens and closes in a unique way. The traditional cabinet usually uses the open way of the drawer. The pagoda opens by rotating. Pushing by the eaves of the pagoda, user can rotate the storage area on each floor on an axis behind it to open it. This will maximize the use of space. Users can intuitively pick up the items they store in the cabinet. At the same time, this way of opening is more suitable for multiple people to use. Designed for both home and office place use.

The material of the cabinet is made of red zebra horse wood, which is mainly made from Cameroon and Gabon. The advantages of erythema alba are many. The texture of red zebra is straight, the wood structure is fine, the mineral line is obvious, the fiber contains silica, and the metallic luster is felt. The wood of red zebra is hard and relatively strong physically. It is difficult to cut manually, but the cutting surface is smooth, and the dyeing and polishing performance are good. Wood is more resistant to rot, can resist white rot fungus, heartwood preservative is difficult to soak. Wet board surface easy to lose moisture, will be slightly warped or end crack, after drying wood stability is good. Red spotted horse wood has excellent dyeing and polishing performance and is easy to stain. When making brunet furniture especially, polished face is faintly red, metallic simple sense is very intense.
This is an innovative design with a complex internal structure, and the machining qualification rate is the biggest challenge encountered by this project.
The project started in September 2020 in Milan and finished in February 2021 in that place, and was exhibited in China in February 2021.
Like a pagoda, it has eaves on every floor. When the user is using the cabinet, the cabinet can be opened by grabbing the eaves and rotating it around the axis behind it. First, users can use the pagoda in this way. Secondly, compared with the traditional cabinet, the way of opening and closing can be more open more areas on the space. For details, the bottom layer is a traditional drawer with a height of 15cm. This can ensure the center of gravity of the cabinet is stable. Finally, it is equipped with four universal wheels to facilitate the user to move it.
According to the data, the market size of the cabinet has been growing steadily since 2015, with an average annual growth rate of about 17%. In 2017, the market size of the domestic locker industry reached 6.61 billion euros, and in 2020, the market size reached 10 billion euros. It's a very big market. Beautiful cabinet is not only a furniture, but also a very good decoration.
I got my inspiration from Buddhist pagodas. The pagoda is a place where Buddhist scriptures are stored, and we used this meaning to design this cabinet. The cabinet is also a product for storing things. Our design motivation was to make traditional symbols as unique as possible in modern products. We changed the way this cabinet opens and closes. Artfully rotated through the shape of the pagoda.
