Production Technology

Material is teak, it is all a dry shrinkage is wet bilge minimum deformation of wood, after professional drying treatment, stable size very wear-resisting, the shrinkage rate from raw material to air dry to radial 2.2%, 4.0%, is the minimum deformation coefficient of the wood, good resistance to bending, wear-resisting, air dry density is 0.65 g/cm3 (dry weight about 650 kg/m3); Therefore, it has the distinctive characteristics of anticorrosive, insect-proof and so on. Suitable as a chair material.

Design Challenge

This is an innovative design with a complex internal structure, and the machining qualification rate is the biggest challenge encountered by this project.

Project Duration

The project started in September 2021 in Milan and finished in February 2022 in that place, and was exhibited in China in February 2022.

Operation Flow

Turn the small-opening side up to make it an ordinary chair for study and work. On the other hand, it turns to a sofa with a large-opening side up so that creates a comfortable space for reading and meditation. When users feel stressed with current study or work, come and meditate for a while, to gain a refreshed mind.

Research

With the highly-development society and fast-pace life, people are always under stress and With the highly-development society and fast-paced life, people are always under stress and anxiety. They expect space to relax for a while. In addition, meditation as a new healthy lifestyle impresses people who pay attention to their mental health these years. We need an area in the public places (office and library) to let us get out of the stress for a while. Zazen can company you until calming down and refresh yourself. It also can be an ordinary chair with turning over for study and work. One product with two functions is an advocate of a low-carbon lifestyle and sustainable development. In total, Zazen expresses a method of taking care of your mental and psychological health while putting lots of effort to work and study.

Inspiration

Daily working time and library sofa inspired us to come up with this project. Employees often need to relax during your daily work in order to refresh brain. And sofa is furniture that can make people feel more comfortable. We want to design a chair that combines advantages. It is usually a chair that can be flipped over to form a wide sofa. Users can meditate while sitting cross-legged on the sofa.
