I used 3D Jewelry software (Rhino) to design this ring, then it was printed with a 3D printer on nylon as a prototype to make sure it fits well, then 3D printed on wax and then casted with 18K Yellow gold. this ring has high mirror polished finish. it has made with 18k yellow gold but it also has different versions in rose gold and silver.
The most challenging part was to choose an appropriate depth to create the exact shadow and pattern on hand which I wanted. also it was hard to make the piece light weight, balanced and comfortable at the same time. my background in industrial design helped me a lot to create an ergonomic piece which is comfortable to wear.
The project started in august 2020 in Toronto/Canada and finished in the end of 2020 in Toronto/Canada.
this ring is comfortable and ergonomic which makes it easy to wear. The user can interact and play with the ring by facing it through the light in-order to make mesmerizing light/pattern show on her hand.
I first started from researching, reading and understanding the Philosophy, meanings and history behind this architectural element by using internet, books, videos. This project connected me more to my memories, roots and my homeland. I wanted to express my sweetest childhood memories which was dancing and playing through the beautiful lights which this architectural elements made in Persian houses.I wanted to create a piece of jewelry from a sweet childhood memory which is common among Persians. Moshabak had a huge role in Persian ancient architecture used as a decorative element.
Moshabak ring was inspired by my childhood memories. Moshabak is the Persian word for reticular, which was a typical architectural element in walls and windows of old Perisan house. This geometric lattice element was a decorative artform with a complex geometric patterns. The reflection of light through this architectural element created a mesmerizing atmosphere in houses.I remember my grandfather’s house, while sunshine bathed the Persian carpets and I was dancing through that magic light show.
