This project is a collaborative project between undergraduate students, design Mentor, and furniture manufacturers. It's an extremely new working environment for all parties. It's also challenging to scale down the mechanics of different façades into a small cabinet door and requires intensive testing and exploration in production phase.
This project started in October 2020 and finished in February 2021 in Bangkok. It will be exhibited at ATT19 in Bangkok during Bangkok Design Week 2021
This modular storage unit is designed to be light and durable. Each module comes with a different closing mechanism, ranging from scissor gates to accordion doors and shutters. Each unit can be configured according to what your space allows. Tenement H can be built up vertically while larger spaces would allow for a wider base.
We started by visiting different neighborhood in Bangkok, observing and discussing shapes, forms and function of each façade we seen. We also looking into how people interact with them and how 'unconventional functions' are create in everyday use. We grouping those ideas into what could be interesting to adapted into products. Then simply each functions and create storage modular unit based on objects that we imagine would be appropriate to fit inside each design.
This project is part of 'Design Plant' exhibition for Bangkok Design week where young product designer are selected explore how we could create new design possibilities. The given concept is 'DOMESTIC'. We wanted to create a piece that reflects Thai, especially Bangkok people's life, a design that people can related to. This project are results of designer trying to explore shapes, form, colours and function of Bangkok charming chaotic architecture.
