With the specially made bronze and gold delicate feet holding up the ceramic sphere, the light projection presents a rich and three dimensional light and shadow changes, gathering on the main wall of the meeting area, leading thousands of visitors. This work aims to express the flow and spatial tension between the cells of the group, using the black glazed cells on the handmade ceramic spheres to translate the different, but different, tourists who come to the smoke wave because they long for the warmth of their stay.

Production Technology

This installation art piece, Crowd gathering of dots, is full of strong emotions and strength, it creates a natural and beautiful visual experience for travelers. No matter what the purpose of the traveler is, they can find their spot here in this hotel.

Design Challenge

As we are also interior designers and relative experience in dealing with this art installation on marble walls, we understand its rigidity and the fixation mechanism behind the walls. We were able to design a point-to-point space, while at the same time presenting our ideal image of the visitor.

Project Duration

Finished in 2019 in Lake Shore Hotel, Tainan City, Taiwan.

Operation Flow

By pre-planning the walls, we are able to control the layout of the whole picture and the right proportion of the units. To control the ceramics balls producing in the same shape and glaze color, but this is also a fascinating aspect of handcraft.

Research

Lake Shore Hotel is located in Tainan, a friendly city with a rich history, heritage and culture. We choose to make the ceramic balls by hand, because handmade, so every point is different and organic. Because it is made by hand, the production outcome is with its own characters. The surface is covered with a glossy black glaze, reflecting each visitor own look.

Inspiration

A journey is a rhythm of life, which to some extent must be suspended from the reality of life, just like a migrating bird that changes with the seasons. A hotel is the stopping place of the trip, just like the warm south where the migrating bird resides. Lake Shore Hotel in Tainan, where the local customs are friendly and mild, is the station that makes travelers feel a sense of belonging.
