Venous is furniture to a hug for mother and kid. Venous inspire by Iran's feminine statues that go back to the Neolithic era. with the specific vision to the concept of fertility and motherless, Venous provides a comfortable area for the mother and her child as well. this is multi _purpose product that applies as a sofa and cradle, considered as a piece of child's room furniture. A space for : -Having rested in pregnancy -listening to the fetus's heartbeat by the cushion (during pregnancy) -feeding and resting with the baby -baby's cradle up to a 5 year _old child
interaction, relax mother, cradle, pregnancy, ancient of Iran , statues
The oval shape of Venus structure is made of wood, cut down with a CNC machine and filled with Upholstery Foam (60mm thickness), and then covered with fabric. the fence was prototyped in the Polywood structure and was connected to the body with two circular patches. we used stethoscope technology for the pillow to hear the fetus heartbeat.
the main challenge was the connection between ancient inspiration and modern society. finding a design language the faces our real needs. we could highlight some of the fertility touch points and find solutions based on inspiration resources. as an example mother's concerns for the health of the fetus and the desire to hear the baby's heartbeat were founded in the function of the old mother statues that were used as some magical power to calm down and have an easy birth.
The project started in Jul 2020 Isfahan/Iran and finished in Dec 2020.
In the pregnancy period, the mother can lay down on the furniture and use the pillow behind her head to listen to the fetus heartbeat and feel relax physically and mentally with her baby. after the birth, the furniture can be used as space work for both mother and newborn to sleep, feed, hug and calm down together. the main interaction is when the furniture can be used as a cradle the mother can turn down the fence to protect her baby.
The mother is the oldest subject of human art," says Toynbee. In ancient Iran, over the Neolithic period, there are some play statues with this subject. In some of these statues, their female organs are emphasized such as breasts and legs. The excessive fatness of these statues reflects the difference that has been achieved in the aesthetic view of us and our prehistoric ancestors, and the belief in the beauty of fat women has remained strong in the minds of many people in the world until a few decades ago. Fatness was a symbol of health, wealth, and satiety for our ancestors.
The identity of this project goes back to ancient Iran and the importance of women in the fertility of the earth. there are some clay statues, called Venus, that go back to the Neolithic era which is the symbol of the mother, the oldest human artistic subject. (says, Toynbee) These statues are symbols of fertility in the human, agriculture, and earth and were inspirational for our ancestors to survive. these ancient Iranian Venouses have a minimal ascetic with exaggerated sexual organs.
