Production Technology

The main frame is made of translucent acrylic material with optical grain while ensuring even illumination of light. The material used for wings and the base is plastic while the handles are made using rubber plastic to minimize ergonomic challenges for consumer. Tara contains a main cylinder and a main spring in each wing along with a side spring and two side cylinders. So how does it work? Pressing the button on top of the lamp, activates the main cylinder, transferring the energy to the side cylinders in each wing in-order to spread the wings with the help of the springs located in each wing.

Design Challenge

Taking steps to this project will face you with dozens of challenges mine were lacking of design facilities and the most complicated part was naming. After hours of wondering and thinking I come up with this glamorous name Tara, yea my own name which in the Sanskrit means light of the soul and also in old Persian it means THE STAR.

Project Duration

started in 29 March 2021 and finished in 27 September 2021 in Tabriz Iran, Islamic Republic of

Operation Flow

"Tara" is an easy to use lamp featuring 3 buttons. The on/off switch, the adjust brightness button, and spread wing button. The ergonomic design of the handles makes it possible to hang this lamp from various spots. The wings contain LED strips that are switched on when the wings are spread in order to increase the level of light to help user with other activities such as reading. In-order to charge the batteries of this lamp, simply put it on its wireless charger.

Research

While designing "Tara" I realized something which changed the direction of things. At first, Tara was supposed to be just a reading lamp but after some research I decided to design this lamp as simple as possible to be an easy to use device by every age group including the elderly since using modern stuff can sometimes be a bit confusing for them.

Inspiration

It all started when I heard a piece of Turkish song which roughly translates to (Are you my night brightening firefly?) This piece of song took me back to my childhood, when everyone of us was jubilant and cheerful when we were watching the light emitting from fireflies. We always wanted to have a firefly for ourselves to brighten up our nights. That was the reason for creating Tara!
