It is a design that combines the spatial characteristics of Korean Sauna with the characteristics of convergence of various cultures and the elements of mountain ranges and stones, which are natural elements.

Unique Properties

This furniture can be useful in saunas and spas. It enables the lying, sitting, and leaning posture, which is the free posture that takes place in a spa in Korea. In the heat of the sauna and spa, it gives a sense of balance in the shape of natural mountains and stones.

Production Technology

We used Korean woodworking techniques. In addition, the pieces were separated using CNC machines and combined to produce the results. This production process was carried out through a very difficult process, combining traditional craft technology and modern technology.

Design Challenge

The process of capturing Korea's national identity was the most difficult, and among them, the research process of capturing Korean aesthetics as a designer was the most difficult. It was difficult to find a shape suitable for a Korean space while maintaining the backrest and leaning posture ergonomically at a comfortable angle.

Project Duration

The project started in Gongju sity, Korea in March 2021, completed in December 2021, and exhibited at the Korea Craft Trend Fair.

Operation Flow

This work is a piece of furniture that can support various postures in a Korean sauna with the concept of diversity. Reflecting the ethnic characteristics of Korea, all postures of lying, reclining and sitting are permitted according to the purpose and will of the user. It can take various forms of rest.

Research

There are various types of saunas in the world. Among them, people in Korean saunas rest in various positions. The chair design was carried out to enable various postures in a hot sauna and allow perfect rest. For the rest, we visited various saunas to investigate people's attitudes and asked what kind of rest would recharge themselves most through a survey. Through these results, Korea's natural mountains and rocks were brought to the sauna. The form added a function that can accommodate all postures.

Sseuim Chair has been a Bronze winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
