Modello 09 is a celebration of mobili brasiliani. With straight lines and geometric construction, the chair holds a suspension form that creates an illusionary loop connecting seat, legs, back and arms in a unique manner. Selected material combination of solid Burmese hardwood teak, brass and cane webbing supports a resistant and strong build.

Following a relatively simple choice of materials, Modello 09 build consists of a combination of rough hardwood, cane fiber and brass. The teak wood is responsible for the overall structure and form character, the angles and geometric shapes balances the warmth of the wood while Brass bars adds technical bond to the structure and the obvious nod to gold as a premium material to balance with a natural wood. The cane webbing, gives to the composition a natural, handmade personality. It’s also an aesthetic element borrowed from Mobiliario Brasileiro broadly used on Latin American furniture design. Because of the oiled nature of teak wood, the construct is carefully built with epoxy glue, notches and sockets, finished with basic a special mixture of Bees Wax and Teak Oil. Burmese Teak is globally cultivated and all materials on this project are sourced locally. The result is a curious straight angled shape, without obvious structural support in the backend of the arms while still building a solid contour with improved usability and ergonomics.
Brazilian Modernism, Tropicalism in a geometric body. Modello 09 is an ode to designers like Isay Winfield, Carlos Motta and Lina Bo Bardi. Materials and manufacturing process are based on a philosophy of environmental respect and handcraft love. We uniquely embrace marks and bruises as badges of honor of nature and the natural aspects of the materials. Modello 09 is an example of limited edition artwork.
