Speculative Vase for Xiangzhi Zhao
In a contemporary era rich with materialism, how to make people enjoy the taste earnestly and meticulously through the design is the problem this design intends to solve. This wine glass is designed with a stopper to divide the whole body into two parts. The hollow area inside can be filled with wine when the stopper is removed. And when the stopper is restored, the glass can only provide the volume for three or four sips. The point of opposites unity in this design lies in the fact that two drinking glasses with significantly different volumes are sold at the same price.

The wine glass is designed with the feature of big opening shared by the four types of glasses, which can enable the aroma to be quickly diffused. I hope to mobilize the user's senses as much as possible with more attraction from the perspectives of smell and taste. The depth of the upper part is designed as per the extremely shallow state of the Tazza cup. The Tazza cup was regarded as a symbol of social status in Italy during the 16th century. To drink from such a shallow glass without spillage, the superb craftsmanship as well as the user's attention on the drink itself are also indispensable.

Vessel made of ceramic materials
The wine glass is designed to specially contain the premium champagne. The shape is designed by reference to four glass shapes of "Patera", "Kylix", "Tazza cup" and "champagne coupe".
The project started in October 2021 in London and finished in February 2022 in Jingdezhen.
The drinking process will consist of two stages: the stage in the shallow upper part and the stage in the deep lower part. When the drinker starts to enjoy the wine in the upper part, the large opening of the glass can help the aroma diffuse more quickly to agitate the olfactory experience. When enjoying the wine in the lower part, because the small diameter in the middle can reduce the oxidation rate of the wine so that the taste will not be changed.
The speculative design attempts to encourage the drinkers to more focus on the drinking process with a better drinking experience through the ceramic structure.
Since the shape of wine glass will bring influence on the user's sense of taste and smell, I’ve studied various existing wine glasses during the design to decide on the shape and the wine type it’s suitable to contain.
