Side Table for Mais Alma Arquitetura and Design
The side table is a hommage of the work Abaporu (1928), by Tarsila do Amaral, a great symbol of modernism in Brazil. This is a piece with a challenging design with a strong symbolism supporting it. With a narrative behind its organic forms, alludes to several elements contained in the work of Tarsila. The intention was to recreate the movement with fluid and organic lines, a challenge to the eye of the sense of balance, proportion and with a playful soul. A graceful balance between form and function.

This is a piece with a challenging design with a strong symbolism supporting it. With a narrative behind its organic forms, alludes to several elements contained in the work of Tarsila. Regarding the colors in the composition, the choice was to bring the soft and at the same time vivid tones of the work. As for the shape, the intention was to recreate the movement with fluid and organic lines, a challenge to the eye of the sense of balance, proportion and with a playful soul. A graceful balance between form and function.

Fully handcrafted in the city of Cruzilia, Minas Gerais, this sidetable is produced by local artisans. The piece has an mdf structure with lacquer paint and American oak finish.
The challenge was in the study of shapes and specially the stability of the table, so that I could achieve a viable piece, economically and in terms of execution and, at the same time, that brought the lightness and organic shapes I was looking for.
The project started in March 2022 and finished in May 2022, in Rio de Janeiro.
Having a refined design, the piece brings a graceful balance between form and function. It is a unique side table that catches the eye of the public, being both an organic and clean, yet a statement piece.
Being influenced by the modernist atmosphere around the world of Tarsila, the goal was to create a design that has this soul. The production was a process of evolving from sketches, technical drawings, and the real scale modeling. The execution was carried out in full-scale prototype.
The rounded shaped side table is a hommage of the work Abaporu (1928), by Tarsila do Amaral, a great symbol of modernism in Brazil. The artist spent a lot of time studying in France, going through ateliers like Fernand Leger's, and returns to Brazil bringing this background to create her unmistakable signature. Abaporu, with its vivid colors and rounded shapes, is speculated to be the most valued Brazilian work in the world. The inspiration came from trying to develop a work of reinterpreting Abaporu and reproducing it in my world of design, keeping its essence and its message.
