Jewellery for Jelena Dinic
The idea behind The Link was to use the symbolism of the Moon which is believed to connect people across the globe. This, in combination with the concept of a link, represents being an integrative part of something bigger, a whole, the chain. Both motives are presented in the head shape as well as the shank which is composed of differently sized and positioned Moon shaped links, forming an open, comfort shank. These links simultaneously represent the different phases of the Moon. The designer's intention was to help people feel more connected with people far away through this piece.

The Link is a fashion ring accompanied by a pair of earrings and a pendant. The idea was to use the concept of "link" and its primary meaning of connecting, as being a part of something bigger - the chain. It is combined with the symbolism of the Moon which, according to some interpretations, also connects. Both motives are presented in the head shape as well as the shank which is composed of Moon shaped links differently sized and positioned, forming an open shank.
Ring, Jewellery, Moon, The Link, Silver, Gold
The ring and the accompanying earrings and pendant were first hand sketched and then modeled in the Gemvision Matrix software with the idea of being directly cast after 3D printing into a 925 Sterling Silver alloy or a 14 k white gold alloy, as well as any other metal used in the jewellery industry, and finished with a high gloss polish.
The motif of the Moon has always been an inspiration to artists from different spheres of art so it’s difficult to implement something so frequently exploited into something new while avoiding being misinterpreted as biased towards any cultural, racial, national or religious group. The Moon is a universal motif. Therefore, there is still room to bring it closer to people in another way and for us to connect through something we have all always held near, in this time of overall lack of connection.
The idea of creating this project arose in July 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic when traveling was made difficult which made seeing people in other countries a challenge. After months of careful planning, the jewellery was 3D modeled and rendered in November 2021. The entire process took place in Nis, Serbia.
The ring is a piece of jewellery worn by almost every person on the planet. This piece, along with the earrings and pendant, can be worn every day and on special occasions because of its simplicity and anatomical design. What makes this ring practical is its open shank which allows the size to be adjusted.
Over the course of history, time has shown that jewellery is used as a form of self expression. This is why people buy, wear and become attached to jewellery based on the symbolism those pieces carry, but the personal symbolism which people create through their connection with the jewellery is crucial, as is the story which each individual has and which stands behind the jewellery’s true immaterial value.
The Moon is the bond between two people who are miles apart. If they only look up at the Moon at the same time, it will be their link to each other. Connection with loved ones who are far away and who they think of when they see the Moon. Carrying this Link with them through the jewellery, sharing the same moonlight.
