Brooch for Ying Li
As the designer wishes, this piece of jewelry will provide a touch of coolness from nature to people who live in crowded and busy cities, which allows them to relax for a moment. Nature, mountains and rivers were the inspirations, forming them with regular geometric shapes, leading to complexity to simplicity. Made of 18k white gold, set with 11.76ct spinels and 1.415ct diamonds. The spinel in each piece is unique, just like the trees in the mountains are all different.

There are two challenges involved in this process: making sure all gemstones fit into the triangle and keeping the color tones consistent. In addition, spinels are all different shapes. The 3D model of each stone setting had to be made individually, which took a lot of time.
The project started in March 2022 and finished in September 2022 in Zhejiang, China.
It is a pair of two mirrored brooches, which can be worn individually, or together in various positions on the collar, lapel, or cuff. The two pieces can be rotated and combined in many different ways, providing fun while wearing.
Nature is the best medicine for healing. It's close to us, yet so far away. Work and various trivialities in city life gradually keep us away from nature. It is my hope that when you see this piece of jewelry, it will make you feel a little cooler from nature and allow you to take a break from your busy work and life. In addition, the research aims to develop a design method that simplifies the design process and is meaningful as well.
I started drawing geometric shapes when I was learning to sketch and also started drawing geometric shapes to illustrate other things. Due to this experience, I enjoy designing with geometric shapes a lot. And always trying to transform irregular objects into regular geometric shapes. The shapes of mountains and rivers inspired me to use geometric triangles to express them. Mountains, reflected water, and distant mountains combine to create an overlapping effect.
