With metal folding craft, the set of brooches demonstrates different hours of scenes of the dome of churches in the morning, noon and midnight separately.Through overlying, cutting, bending pressure together with different kinds of texture techniques on the surface of metal,we see changes of combination and the hollow out makes people come into imagination of an eternal dome. The whole set of brooches are hand made to present piety and sedation.
hand made, jewelry, brooch, metal, silver, modern, dome, arc shaped
Materials: S925 Silver, red copper, metal oxidant. Production method:hand made, folding process,a technique changing metals from hot to cold.Principles:after high temperature smelting and crushing, the material is folded manually and then welded, including smelting, forging, buckling, folding, welding and polishing.
1. Sheet metal can be hard to be folded; 2. Sheet metal is weak in flexibility and cracking may be seen after multiple bending; 3. Silver sheet and red coper sheet are not combined through welding. To clamp the three sheets needs data from constant experiments. Due to the cambered surface of metal sheet after dimensional folding, the process becomes much more complicated and difficult.
Inspired on April, 15 of 2019, the maker spent three weeks on the draft and then began the work. On July 2th of the same year, the set of brooches was finished by China Academy of Art and has never been on show to the public.
A brooch can keep one’s faith the closest to his heart. Although the set of brooches is a little big in size, with hollow out craft, the color and woven grain of costume can be seen. The double needles back of the brooch make it more stable when wearing it.
Because metal folding is a brand-new craft, experience and data needed can only be gained through research and experiment. Moreover, it’s also required to learn more about church architecture so that the maker can get organized knowledge though self conclusion.
Moved by the piety from Evening Bell by Jean Francois Millet , and regretful for the fire that happened at Notre Dame de Paris in 2019,the designer was determined to make a hollow out and transparent brooches with the look of the church dome. With abundant presentation of colors,we have different feelings: transparent dome in the morning for a pure heart, shining dome at noon for enthusiasm, noctilucent dome at night for peace and meditation.
