Sway is a way to explore your own rhythm and patterns. Through observing and discovering these occasional unconscious movements, it has been noted that people sometimes exhibit unconscious behaviors, such as rocking, when entering a state of mental flow. By incorporating a pendulum beneath the seat, the height and the unique sensation that a bar stool provides are leveraged. It provides stability and controlled, small-scale rocking that allows users to explore and find their own rhythm. With its high bar stool design and rocking motion, Sway promotes a calming and contemplative state of mind.

Design Challenge
The production process involves traditional tube bending and handmade welding, but transforming unconscious behavior and mental flow into objects is the longest and most thoughtful part of the entire creative process.
Project Duration
The project lasts for one semester and takes place at Shih Chien University.
Research
Inspired by the observation and discovery of people's occasional unconscious behavior of rocking, research has found that it has a similar function of "awakening" the brain, promoting cognitive thinking ability, increasing blood flow, and inducing a state of mental flow. From this intriguing phenomenon, the concept was transformed into the design of an object, particularly a bar stool, utilizing the unique sensation brought by the bar stool to create a high rocking chair. The chair aims to evoke a relaxed atmosphere and aid in achieving a state of focused thinking. Subsequently, the center of gravity was tested to determine the appropriate proportions of length and weight distribution. Once the size was defined, the design was conceived, and PVC water pipes were heated to create the model of the chair frame ,and size adjustments. Finally, surface treatment was applied.

Through observing and discovering these occasional unconscious movements, it has been noted that people sometimes exhibit unconscious behaviors, such as rocking, when entering a state of mental flow. This fascinating phenomenon has inspired me to transform it into a design object.
Project Overview
Sway Bar Chair has been a Silver winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2022 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
