Production Technology
The centerpiece of this ring is a natural, untreated Colombian emerald with a square and symmetric emerald cut. Perfectly placed at the heart of the design, this stunning gem forms the captivating butterfly motif. Beneath the emerald, hidden dual-layer clasps ensure secure and seamless assembly, allowing the wearer the freedom to mix and match with ease. The Colombian emerald's vivid green hue exemplify its rarity and beauty, making it the focal point of this versatile jewelry piece. With the innovative hidden clasp design, this ring transforms effortlessly, offering the wearer the freedom to create unique looks for any occasion.
Design Challenge
The intricate detailing in this design, especially the delicate channel set diamonds, requires close collaboration between skilled diamond cutters and master artisans. Achieving the seamless integration of the upper and lower layers of the bowknot motif, both in terms of comfort and aesthetic appeal when worn separately, as well as the graceful elegance when combined, posed a significant challenge. The utmost precision and meticulous craftsmanship were essential to strike the perfect balance in each element's proportions.
Project Duration
The project started in Octorber 2022 and finished in March 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Operation Flow
This ring offers both opulence and practicality, as it effortlessly transforms into two pieces, a pendant and a ring, with a simple and quick disassembly. The cleverly concealed clasps, designed with double-layer protection, ensure both the safety and aesthetics of wearing.
Research
I take great pride in crafting jewelry with fluid lines. For this design, achieving the perfect harmony of lines and twists in a 360-degree view was my primary focus. Through meticulous adjustments and careful observation of different angles, I successfully developed the 3D model of this exquisite piece. The true essence of this jewelry lies in its graceful ribbon-like form, brought to life by meticulously setting 130 pieces of diamond in a seamless less channel setting. Each diamond was skillfully cut to match the curves and width of the ribbon, creating a stunning and continuous flow of brilliance.
Inspiration
The history of the bowknot is rich and meaningful in both Eastern and Western cultures, often associated with elegance and grand social occasions. As a jewelry designer, I aim to bring a breakthrough to the popular theme of entwined ribbons and butterflies by creating a dual-purpose piece that exudes both opulence and simplicity for everyday wear. Striking a balance between extravagance and practicality, this jewelry transcends cultural boundaries.
