The HLJ Nine & Eighteen Natures of China, originating from the Heilongjiang region, is a rare specialty known for its vast forests and snow-covered wilderness. The packaging design of this series is intended to render the product through intuitive patterns and design symbols. This approach not only creates a distinctive visual memory but also establishes a connection with the valuable raw materials.

Production Technology
The boxes are crafted from sturdy cardboard material and have been subjected to processes like matte lamination and embossing, in order to enhance the perceived levels of surface texts and graphics. In certain product lines, the packaging surface is further ornamented with foil stamping to accent the precious properties of the raw materials.
Design Challenge
During the design process, the primary concern was how to guarantee a consistent exhibition of all the products. Making a trade-off between consistency and individuality was of utmost importance. Hundreds of packaging styles were experimented and evaluated, finalizing an approach that accents the product itself, integrates cultural elements, and explores diverse patterns and symbolic colors.
Project Duration
The project kicked off in March 2023 in Heilongjiang, wrapped in in Hangzhou by June 2023, and exhibited in September 2023 in Harbin and Guangzhou.
Operation Flow
These processes cover various stages, including design production, printing processing, die-cutting, folding, and bonding. In these stages, the key steps involve design validation, printing quality inspection, die-cutting precision adjustment, folding angle control, and bonding firmness inspection. Ultimately, a range of finished packaging products is obtained.
Research
By capitalizing on visually appealing effects, the inherent association between the product and culture can be reproduced, accenting the product's value information. The use of traditional brush calligraphy font serves as a vital symbol of oriental flavor and visual coherence.
Inspiration
Unlike other products, the most appealing point of promoting these health products is precious plant and animal extracts. Therefore, the packaging design aims to effectively communicate the characteristics of these raw materials to the users in a quick and intuitive manner. To make this happen, visual effects such as symbolic colors, typography, and a consistent style of product graphics are used, thereby ensuring a cohesive and uniform look across the entire product range.
Project Overview
HLJ Nine And Eighteen Natures Of China Product Packaging has been a Silver winner in the Packaging Design award category in the year 2023 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill.
