This cognac glass is free-blown in a hot-shop and possesses very thin glass. Due to the technique used, every glass piece is unique. The bottom of the cup has two inner-blown arches forming a special flattened shape. These two arches make it possible to put the glass on the table as you wish resting on either of its sides. The glass is easy to grab and looks good at every angle. The shape of the bottom of the glass is meant to reflect light from different angles, adding a special enjoyment to drinking.

Used material is glass. This is free-blown in a hot-shop in the glass studio.
These glasses require a high level of glass blowing skill. At the beginning, the most difficult part was to make two identical blown arches to the bottom. Also, it was important to conduct research to find the right bottom angle and distance between the arches. I examined how temperature affects the bottom angles, thickness and distances between the arches. Finally, I found the right way to produce them.
The project started in September 2016 in Osterbybruk in Sweden. The production continued in Helsinki and was finished in May 2017 in Helsinki in Finland. The objects were exhibited in Ikkunagalleria Hytti in June 2017.
This object is meant for drinking cognac. The recommended maximum allowable liquid level is halfway an inner arch when you hold a glass. The sections offer a perfect place to grab the glass and sniff the scent of the drink. Watch the reflections of the liquid from all angles. After drinking the cognac, you can put the glass on the table on either side. The glass can be washed in the dishwasher.
I made drinking glasses from glass. I made drinking glasses with glass blowing techniques. My goal in my research is to improve the taste of the drink by improving the functionality, shape and reflection of the glass containing the liquid. It took a long time to find the right working method. By mastering the glass blowing techniques and processes I managed to create a new type of glass series.
My inspiration comes from Finnish nature, especially from the element of water. I am inspired by water in all its states: as liquid, steam and ice. Water moves and freezes just like glass. Both ice and glass reflect light and shapes in interesting ways. The idea behind this work came to me on my 30th birthday. Back then, I made an art glass object called 30s to celebrate turning 30. This item belongs to the same glass series as it shares the same inspiration and shape. The base design reflects the nuances of ageing and invoking the tradition of ageing cognac for quality.
