Designer uses the house' original high-ceiling advantage to create a spacious space atmosphere and selects the natural woods and marble to decorate space. The owner couple and their kids are the users for the 3rd and 4th floors; the younger generation prefers a simple, stylish, and a little bit of industrial loft style for creating a youthful vigor and living atmosphere, which is a completely different atmosphere from the one that the elder generation likes. The 5th floor is the male owner's studio and an exhibition area for his collected action figures as well.
Three generations live under one roof, spiral staircase, style contrast, structural calculation
The staircase plays the role of how to connect all the floors perfectly. Designer decides to tear down the original and traditional staircase and designs a new spiral staircase to create a refreshing space decoration, meanwhile, the styles of the spiral staircases change and echo with the designs on different floors. In addition, there are LED lamps mounted on the back sides of stairs, which use the soft and warm light to decorate the spaces between stairs and make the entire structure look light visually.
As there are a lot of complex factors in this space, such as the five-stories terraced house and three generations living under one roof, the designer has to think comprehensively how to make an exclusive interior environment for the house owner and fix the problems, and each area demonstrates its unique feature and user's personality, and it is a place where family members can feel relaxed moments and enjoy comfortable life quality.
The project started in April 2017 in Taiwan and finished in February 2018.
The 1st floor as the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The 5-meter-height ceiling is the natural advantage of the living room that sufficient sunlight can be cast into the interior environment through large windows. There are two areas planned for the kitchen space, one is the kitchen island and the other one is the individual cooking area. The skylight is used for enhancing the natural lighting to create a spacious cooking field with sufficient sunlight, looking like the indoor and outdoor space combined without partition.
The house owner's mother is the major space user for the 1st and 2nd floors where she usually hosts many friends and relatives. Therefore, the designer uses the house' original high-ceiling advantage to create a spacious space atmosphere; The 5th floor is the male owner's studio the designer especially uses the Oriented Strand Board to enhance the effects of sound isolation and adopts the unfixed design for the layers to further upgrade the storage function and make it a flexible use.
As this project is a five stories building, the division and characteristic for each area have to be quite clear. The spaces will be partitioned by the users' individual tastes and preferences and be cleverly connected through delicately decorative details; what these decorations do is to meet with the house owner's requirements, create an exclusive life experience, and make a clear position about home at the end.
