Photography for Sunpono
"The Japanese Forest" is taken from a Japanese religious perspective. One of the Japanese ancient religions is Animism. Animism is a belief that non-human creatures, still life (minerals, artifacts, etc.) and invisible things also have an intention. Photography is similar to this. Masaru Eguchi is shooting something that makes feeling in the subject. Trees, grass and minerals feel the will of life. And even artifacts such as dams that left in nature for a long time feel the will. Just as you see the untouched nature, the future will see the present scenery.

"The Japanese Forest" is taken from a Japanese religious perspective. In addition, the more it explores the unique perspectives of Japan, the more universal and true nature appears. The nature in this work is the scenery seen by ancient people, modern people, and future people.

The technology required for "The Japanese Forest" is digital retouching. Digital retouching has made it possible to achieve both nostalgia and newness. With this work, He was able to create colors that could not be achieved with film.
The difficulty with this project is that forests are decreasing in Japan. Japanese forests were destroyed by economic growth in the 1960s. Replanted with fast-growing trees, Japanese forests have become similar.
The project was created between 2013 and 2015. And it was released on eguchimasaru.com.
This work reminds the user of the view of nature stored in the gene. This work suggest a discussion about what is needed for the future art. This is the role of the work.
Type of study: animism, eight million gods. Research purpose: To preserve the existing landscape in the future. Methodology: photography. Tools: Japanese classic books. Influence of design: The more unique the country landscape, the more universal the beauty.
One of the beginnings of Japanese religion is the "Yaoyorozu-no-kami". "Yaoyorozu-no-kami" is the belief that there is a god in all things in nature, and it is introduced in foreign countries as "Animism" or "Shinto". Shooting is similar to "Animism". Trees, minerals, and dead grass feel the will of life, and even if an artifact like a dam is left in nature for a long time, it will feel the will of life. Just as we see untouched nature, the future people see the current scenery.
