The most significant feature of the project is to make the most use of the logs purchased by the client with the diameter of 1.2 meters and the length of 3.6 meters. It is displayed in every corner and coexists with the clients retirement in the future. In order to strengthen the natural texture of logs, the design takes the principle of low limit and black, white and grey colors as the basis, supplemented by iron elements, glass, and other materials to dissolve the solid wood thickness, but create a cozy natural home.
Modern, open space, wood log, natural material, residential design
Myanmar teak, mahogany and other wood logs, customized iron elements, natural stone material, black mirror, artifical leather, enamel coating system furniture, wallpaper, tatami mat, laminate flooring, stained glass.
The biggest challenge comes from the great feature of the design, the logs. The team needs to undergo a precise calculation and methods to use the logs properly and show its value and uniqueness. One part of the log is used as the design of the table board of the TV cabinet, which is due to the thickness of 12 cm and a length of 3.6 m. It is challenging to hold the weight safely, reduce the visual heaviness, and make the construction process go smoothly at the same time.
The project was finished in September, 2018 in Taichung City, Taiwan.
In order to creating a barrier free environment, the innermost room is transformed into a tatami room, no only bringing more brightness to the hall, which originally lacked natural light, but also creating a place for clients and grandchildren to enjoy. The spatial aesthetics of the space is presented by the combination of a variety of different materials to maximize the beauty of the logs. While the overall space satisfies the client, it reflects the clients personality.
The design team simplify the design elements and arrange the public space in an open way to display a bright and clean lifestyle. Considering the personality of the client and the texture of the logs, the design team delves into the collocation between materials and the presentation of the color, carrying out a visual balance. Each design highlights the clients preference for specific elements through overlapping the composite materials, building a spatial level of variability.
Inspired by the clients love for logs and traditional crafts, the design team makes the material itself and the clients wood art collection the essential element of the design, which perfectly integrated into the living space. Considering the space is not only for the client to enjoy the life of retirement but also to meet the lifestyle of the whole family when they come to visit, the planning of layout and spatial scale is carried out accordingly.
