For Sale for David Osborn Photography
Digital photographs created by stitching up to a hundred individual exposures together. Post-production using Adobe Photoshop gives the images a painterly, artistic feel. The detail and clarity of a photograph yet the feel of an old master painting gives the photographs an artistic conflict: a conflict between looking at a real subject with all the detail and clarity of a photograph, but the artistic treatment removes the literal feel to give an unreality to the scene. Printed 60 x 90 inches or larger reminds us of the grand scale of old master paintings, not photography.

Digital photography and Adobe Photoshop retouching. Using a panoramic head, up to 120 multiple photographs are taken then stitched together using PTGui software followed by artistic Adobe Photoshop retouching. The use of a panoramic head and stitching images together allows a wide but very natural looking field of view, similar to the human eye, and corrected perspective of buildings (verticals are vertical lines, not falling over); all impossible if shooting with wide angle lenses because of lens distortions.

The main challenge is set by myself. Ideally I would like photographs without much modern technology that would date the photograph to a time frame. Ideally, I would love images that look like they could have been taken this year - or 200 hundred years ago. Ideally, peaceful timeless images that "look real but don't look real"at the same time.
This is an on-going project. The project began in 2018 and still currently running, there are so many beautiful locations I have yet to get to and apply my artistic process on.
First I research the locations in Europe to find a strong location with old building with a traditional character. Once decided, the main job is capture, going to the location and waiting up to 8 hours or more for the right light and weather conditions. Having captured all the assets required, the post-production is carried out on my return home. One image takes about 4 to 5 days to complete.
Each image is not so much a photograph but a project. First all the images are captured with a digital camera which takes up to 8 hours. Shooting all the variations of light and subject. Back home, all the images are then stitched to make the individual panoramic images that all align with each other. Creating the final image first involves compositing the content together into a single image, then creating the three-dimensional illusion or quality in the image, then lastly, the final creative, artistic overlay that give the photograph its finished painterly look and mood.
My passion for photography combined with a passion for old master painters. The technology of digital photography and post-production now allow me the means to combine both passions into one, creating large, aesthetically beautiful images. Creating fine art photography with the clarity and detail of a photograph, yet retain an artistic, painterly quality. A personal project for creating photographs that are intended to be no more than beautiful artistic images for display from some of the most beautiful locations and subjects found in Europe. Art for art's sake.
