Consider the oriental culture – fengshui, people usually put a cabinet in entrance to deflect negative energy. By disconnecting cabinet from the wall, the sight can be extended from entrance to living room. With the gray mirror putting on the wall, it can show the reflection of scenery outside the living room’s window. It opened a way for sunlight to stream inside. By using lots of mirror to enlarge visual space sense. The form of ceiling also implied the limit of each space.
The project started in December 2018 and finished in December 2019 in Taipei.
Through the constantly discuss with clients. The design team try to mixed their various thoughts with modern spatial manipulation. With the actively participate of the clients and the design team, they found the best answer.
In response to the mixed culture and to combine classical with modern style, the Moooi Smoke Chair was put in the entrance to symbolize the main concept of the project. The chair was made by burning in fire then treated with epoxy resin. Which use modern technique to rebuild classical form. Revelation from Carlo Scarpa “spirit in the corner”. In order to resolve the junction of titanium-coated stainless steel, we put little squares in the corner by using leveling technique to solve the trim problem.
Due to the different personality of the Yu’s family members. Finding the balance between each family members is the first challenge. Consider that they have plenty of overseas living experience, the place they are going to live should be a mixed culture.
