The development of The Lazarus Effect is based on the theme of the Lazarus-Effect, as coined by paleontologist David Jablonski. This pertains to the unintentional rediscovery (by accident, through expedition or through relocation projects) of a previously lost or considered extinct form of life. The project is a multimedia awareness campaign using black and white vector illustrations of representatives from flora and fauna that are currently subject.

The development of The Lazarus Effect is based on the theme of the Lazarus-Effect, as coined by paleontologist David Jablonski. This pertains to the unintentional rediscovery (by accident, through expedition or through relocation projects) of a previously lost or considered extinct form of life. The project is a multimedia awareness campaign using black and white vector illustrations of representatives from flora and fauna that are currently subject to the Lazarus-Effect. The illustration of the German Lazarusse should act as the visual key of the campaign and unite all components. The large prints attract attention, you can't overlook them. The black and white vector style combines the different media parts of the campaign. At the tall buildings they look admonishingly at the viewer. They were considered extinct by humans and returned as symbol of warning.

The hardest part was it to visually compress the complex topic of the Lazarus-Effect into a social education campaign and to transport the informations on a interesting way. All parts build on each other and the main illustration and the printed media are such a part of a big construction with guerrilla marketing, social media and online marketing, exhibition concepts (museum and pop-up-exhibition) and merchandise products with a charitable shop in favor of species protection. It was difficult to read into the specialist knowledge of anthropological, biological and paleontological. The black and white style in detail and the rich contrasted illustrations are the best way of visualization and communication for this serious topic.
The project startet in may 2020. Other parts of the Lazarus Effect campaign: https://competition.adesignaward.com/viewdesign.php?ID=111223 https://competition.adesignaward.com/viewdesign.php?ID=111428
The illustration of the german Lazarusse are develop to accompany and introduce the Lazarus Effect campaign.
Research with anthropological, biological and paleontological literature, as well as support of various natural history museums. The design is rich in detail. They illustrations are drawn as vector graphics in black and white and thus fits in well as a eye-catcher in the colorful city. The graphics are structured in such a way that the viewer can discover more and more. The main Lazarus illustration with all campaign Lazarusse has a very oversize-format and invites to look for the details. The Topics are compressed and build on on each other. The animals look admonishingly at the viewer. The hashtag takes the user to the social media and the Lazarus homepage.
The Lazarus effect is a largely neglected and largely unknown topic. The results were concluded through the findings of an educational cross-media social campaign, consisting of print media in the form of campaign posters / flyers / banners and information graphics, the development and the planned establishment of the brand HashtagLazarusEffekt, social media marketing and merchandising products of the brand, a supporting web concept, as well as guerrilla marketing strategies.
