Each square depicts a visual image related to basketball, as well as buildings and landmarks that symbolize Mito, the host city. The animation is so dynamic that the eye cannot keep up. The audience was drawn into an exciting immersive experience. The level of basketball in Japan has evolved dramatically in recent years, and the league has seen a dramatic increase in attendance, as well as the demand for high quality in key art and venue production.

Project Duration

B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2023 January 13-14, 2023 The event took place in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan.

Inspiration

The clue to this design came from Othello, a board game that originated in Mito, the host city of the B.League All-Star Game 2023. We wondered if we could create a visual that would make the audience of the All-Star Game go crazy, based on the motif of the grid-shaped Othello board and circular pieces that all Japanese are familiar with, and came up with a rotating representation of colorful buildings symbolizing Mito and portraits of players based on the above shape.

Project Overview

B. League All-Star Game 2023 Op Art has been a Platinum winner in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design award category in the year 2023 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Platinum A' Design Award is recognized for honoring designs that stand at the forefront of creativity and innovation. It is the highest accolade bestowed by the A' Design Awards, acknowledging works that blend remarkable innovation with impactful societal contributions. These designs not only showcase exceptional artistic and technical proficiency but also highlight their creators' commitment to advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology. Recipients of this award are celebrated for their role in shaping the aesthetics and trends of our time, contributing significantly to the enhancement of quality of life and promoting sustainable development.
