Design Exhibition for 869 School of Design

This is a series of works on the theme of Rename, exhibited in Dalian. They broke the stereotype of standard and used standard visual language to question and reflect on the concept of measurement. At the exhibition site, the unrolled roll of paper is like a tape measure. They can assign different meanings to the scale, select the basic tools for measurement and the set of triangular plates, and make experimental collages, conveying the idea that the standards are redefined by themselves.

Unique Properties

From the creative perspectives of two young artists,the Redefinition is jointly initiated.The exhibition will break people’s stereotypes of standards and question and reflect on the concept of measurement via standard visual language.Into the exhibition,the unfolded scroll is like a tape measure,you can assign different meanings to the scale,select the basic tools for measurement and the set of triangular plates,and make experimental collages.Here,your standards are redefined by yourself.Illustration,to convey their own definition standards in various aspects through exhibitions.

Design Challenge

The most difficult part of this exhibition lies in how to present standards via new forms and what are carriers to present the concept of measurement.To start with the flexible ruler was thought as the carrier,but it is only a tool that can not interact with the masses well.Thus the roll paper was used to replace the flexible ruler,because roll paper is characterized by good interactivity and transmission as daily necessities,and it can be better understood by the masses via the visual design.

Project Duration

This project was started in Dalian in November,2020 and completed in Dalian in January,2021,which was further exhibited at ACX Xinghai Art Center in December,2020.

Operation Flow

This work selected the basic measuring tools and the standard graphics in the triangle set for further collage so as to represent four kinds of characters.Measurement is a fundamental method to understand the world,or else everything is fuzzy.The way of measurement is to define a basic unit,and then conduct splicing via numerous units.You can select a section with the same or similar character as yours from the roll paper or conduct collage at the scene,and then taking it away after placing in a file bag. In this way,everyone can find themselves,and become a standard regardless of perfection or not.

Research

Therefore this research focused on the standard of beauty in the current society to study the process of facing standards,breaking the routine and realizing selfassertion and the illustration,collage and photography were selected for expression.First of all this research selected four basic graphics of the triangle set for further expression via illustrations,and then conducted free collage to form butterflies.People and work are integrated into each other in the ordinary environment for shooting.

Inspiration

Butterflies are beautiful for their wings,and people are more attractive for their shiny moments.Since we are not perfect ourselves,we have more development space to try, experience,and recombine.Photography and illustration are combined to simulate butterflies for shaping.Since it does not meet the standard,make it become the standard and redefine its unique self.
