Sustainable Fashion Design for Tanya Dunaeva
Fabric / FAB is an Exhibition of Sustainable Fashion. The main task in developing the exhibition identity was to create a typographic style. The accidental font used in the design Concept reflects one of the central messages of the exhibition – a call to reduce consumption in the fashion sector, a call for reasonable consumption. Graphically, the solution is based on a cross-type of a pair of fonts-strictly grotesque and openwork accidental font, resembling the folds of fabric.

Collages, mock-ups in Adobe Photoshop are performed. Openwork letters in a light airy outfit lose it by half, while the functional component is preserved – the grapheme can be read quite easily. Typography is inspired by Cinema 4D lessons. Simple generative design tools allow achieving significant visual effects.
The difficulty of the work was that not all the fashion audience is ready to talk about the problems of Moderate consumption. This industry is still relatively new to the market and every step in drawing attention to this problem is very valuable, so the brighter and more convincing the overall design is, the more people it will be able to interest, engage and possibly change the situation in the future in the field of Moderate consumption.
Project is done at Russian Higher School of Economics as one of the students Projects and took about 3 weeks
Identity talks to fashion consumers in their language, she immediately declares that this exhibition is about fashion, but fashion is not quite ordinary, fashion is in the trend of Moderate consumption and thus it attracts attention to itself better, stands in a separate row from mass consumption, attracting the attention of opinion leaders among consumers and market leaders among production.
Before starting the work, a small desk study was conducted, the purpose of which was to dive into the essence of the problem, analyze existing methods for solving the problem (who and how participates in the movement for Moderate consumption in the fashion industry) and form the main content of the future exhibition based on the collected data and analytical conclusions.
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution, the second largest industrial polluter in the world. The dominance of Fast Fashion, when the largest fashion brands organize a race for the speed and cheapness of clothing production, leads to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, encouraging the production of low-quality clothing with a short cycle of use, to scandals due to poor working conditions. The FAB exhibition tells about design trends in the field of sustainable fashion.
FAB Sustainable Fashion Design has been a Silver winner in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design award category in the year 2020 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
