Why black was chosen to express pure white jasmine? Since jasmines bloom at night only, therefore the making of jasmine tea was also conducted at night, typical "working at night". The color of dark night was chosen as the dominant color of the package, with the tone of Eastern palace to express the noble demeanor of this queen of night. Jasmine flowers were depicted as mesmerizing as glittering stars in the night sky through thorough hot foil stamping.

Unique Properties

Considering high-end tea preservation, iron cans would be the most ideal choice. However, because of the large production of customized iron cans, there could be challenges of package cost, stock and product management if producing respective cans for each flavor.the design was based on "uniform cans+self-adhesive labels"self-adhesive label printed with cold foil stamping which was intentionally chosen, creating the quality tone meanwhile keeping the accessibility of being used for new flavors.

Production Technology

The can body used special printing: uniform cans with printed self-adhesive paper labels. The label was printed with cold foil stamping to create the metallic texture of the iron can, meanwhile enhancing the exquisiteness through hot foil stamping and frosted finish. On the other hand, the gift box was made of embossed art papers, with hot foil stamping paper cutting that expressed Eastern style; The linings could be selected for corresponding can sizes, creating various product mix through the structure which each can sizes has its corresponding independent linings. The design of the package had used the characteristics of multiple materials, multiple printing techniques, structure combination, successfully created a package which has extreme design competence and commercial value.

Design Challenge

Because the agricultural workers are aging and the process of cultivating pesticide-free jasmine in Huatan Township is complicated, the youth's intention of returning to their hometown and supporting local agriculture has greatly decreased; as a result, local pesticide-free jasmine production is little. Therefore, in order to enhance the economic benefit then drive local agricultural transition, Huatan Farmers' Association broke conventional business models by introducing innovations like "brand" and "design" to enhance local industry. Moreover, they had launched a sequence of jasmine products and built a jasmine themed recreation area, having driven regional revitalization. Regarding the execution of this project: we had conducted in-depth research into the target market, and expressed jasmine's timeless value and status in Eastern culture through innovative and representative visual design of the package; not only has reversed the public's conventional image of agricultural products, but also promoted jasmine teas to enter high-end market successfully!

The project started in May 2019 in Huatan Township, Changhua County, Taiwan and finished in January 2020 in Huatan Township, Changhua County, Taiwan

Refined of Jasmine Packaging has been a Bronze winner in the Packaging Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Bronze A' Design Award is given to outstanding designs that showcase a high degree of creativity and practicality. These designs are acknowledged for their professional execution and potential to influence industry standards positively.
