Whisky Bar for Zen-In Architects
The designers integrated the interior and exterior spaces of the bar to increase communication and interaction between customers. The designer sums up four key words: precipitation, tranquility, aftertaste, and illusion. From these points, the designer incorporates the feelings into the space, then conditions of rough, simplicity, reflection and contrast appear. The whole design implies five linear threads and different material. These clues are in the same direction of the space, and together form a sense of speed. These material are brick, rock slabs, teak, metal and mirror stainless steel.

Aar is a place of relaxation and comfort, a place of perception and contradiction, or a place of wine cultural interaction. The designer has summarized four keywords: sedation, tranquility, evocation, and illusion. Which correspond to rough, smooth, reflective, and contrasting material in design, to bring people a variety of feelings

The design suggests five linear with different materials. Overall, these clues create a sense of speed in the same direction of the space. And the tiles on the floor are suggestive and directive, bringing functional lights emphasizing the spatial axis. The curved installation at the top fills the space with more sense, such as the mirror stainless steel was used to express the reflection and distortion of the space scene.
The challenge of the project is about the low-cost design within a small space. From a design point of view, the designer needed to find the characteristics and spatial logic with a limited budget, and combine this spatial logic with function. In a social sense, the bar is more like a community living room, a place for friends and cultural exchange, and more like an outdoor plaza space that extends into the indoor space. The bar connects the whole community and brings people closer to each other.
The project started in October 2020 in Qinhuangdao and finished in February 2021 in Qinhuangdao
The space is not only a bar but also a public living room for the community. Its existence is private but public. When all doors and windows are closed, privacy and closure was the main element for people. While windows open, they present an open space that makes the indoor and outdoor guests can easily communicate. The guests on the other side of the window can directly communicate with the indoor or bartender, thus the indoor bar extends to the outdoor, which increases the interaction between people.
The bar has located in a utopian community around Beijing. The designer asked the residents and tourists in the community what the bar they dreamed of was like standards answers were public, interactive, and regional through questionnaires and data collection. They hope that the bar here can not only for get together with friends but also make strangers communicate with each other like neighbors through data investigation and final design, which has become their ideal living room.
The designers found that the arched windows and doors are different from the surrounding buildings. In the blank state, there is no clear boundary between the interior and exterior. After entering the interior, the space was evenly divided into two parts with a clear axis and symmetry. The designer wanted to start with the bar's characteristics and extend outdoor feelings into the indoor space so that the interior and outdoor environment could achieve a harmonious integration.
