Auditorium for Onexn Architectural & Spatial Design Office (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
The project is located in Shenzhen, China. In light of the current situation and the client's requirements in the Design Brief, the design team intended to take advantage of the existing structures to form a composite landscape; a "floating path" winding towards the inside from the entrance. The floating path is suspended in the full-height front hall, appearing like a clean and mysterious ribbon. Below the floating path, there're natural plants, as well as resting and waiting areas.

Based on the existing spatial structures, the design creates a "floating path" in the full-height front hall. The "floating path" offers a unique three-dimensional garden touring-like experience on the way to the auditorium from the entrance. This steel-structure corridor is completely supported by existing vertical columns, while also hiding pipelines. Concrete and metal generate a distinctive contrast, enabling the "floating path" to produce a mysterious levitation effect.

In this project, the design reshapes functions, reorganizes circulation route and adopts visual guiding expressions to maximize design firms' vitality, potential and value and create innovative scenes that can facilitate collaboration and connection.
The architectural scheme separated the two floors of the space as independents parts, and the upper level provided poor accessibility. This posed a great challenge to the interior design. In response to the site's restrictions and the project's intention of serving designer community, the design team worked out a design scheme, which reshaped the circulations inside and outside the exhibition hall so as to effectively offer design-linked services to the community.
Project duration: 2020.05.19 - 2021.02.08 Location: Dashi 2nd Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China
The "floating path" simplifies the original circulation route on the way to the auditorium from the basement floor, effectively achieving a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. With the elaborate steel structure design, this floating corridor is completely supported by the exiting columns, whilst hiding pipelines as well. Heavy concrete and light metal generate a strong contrast. The clean, pure space enables the "floating path" to produce a mysterious levitation effect.
The designers proposed to create an independent watching area in part of the hollow area above the auditorium, and this was supported by the client. Meanwhile, it also inspired the client to come out with the idea of combining this area with tea drink selling functions to produce a new commercial space. When the auditorium is not used for conferences, the screen are available for playing event information, advertisements, and films at certain time, presenting the auditorium's infinite function possibilities to people in the tea drink space.
The design team was entrusted to conceive the auditorium and public area in Design Commune, aiming to create a community-style public space, which can provide more display and communication opportunities for users, stimulate participation of design firms and individuals, and link various design practices on the basis of "new consumption mode".
