Jewish Association for LONG TSAI CORP.
Taiwan's first Jewish temple draws its inspiration from Durers iconic oil painting Praying Hands. This art work served as the foundation for the entire design concept, with curved lines forming the core ideas and artistic details of each interior space. Parabolic and catenary arch lines were ingeniously flowed through the design to create small arched patterns, which appear both random and organized.

This is Taiwans first Jewish temple. On the left and right of the entrance are the reception counter, the administrative office, the elders room, the wall of periodicals and the waiting area. In front is the central corridor opening. The curvatures of the corridors are used to guide the visitors visual focus to the colorful glazed glass display wall at the bottom of the corridor. The symbolic holy grail and Star of David patterns from the doctrine are transformed into a spiritual display.
Interior Design, Jewish Association,Temple, Space, Spacial design
A kosher restaurant is planned on the left side of the corridor. The hall adopts a saturated peach base color and is laminated with interspersed copper gold mosaic lamps. The exquisite wooden wireframes outline the layers to vividly represent the fertile land of Canaan. The two sides of the high-rise cathedral ceiling are opposing pairs with 10 fan-shaped rib ridges. The proportion of the elevated arches harmoniously guide the radial ribs to disperse the thrust lines in perfect balance. The double-slope ceiling of the synagogue on the top floor is gilded with exquisite patterns. The seats in the hall are allocated using the gender partition concept.
Additional heat and sound insulation were installed on top of the synagogue on the top floor to ensure neighborhood friendliness. The windows on both sides also have strengthened sound insulation and ventilation design to increase airflow and prevent chanting poetry or crowd gatherings from bothering the neighbors. In addition, baptism is the most important ritual of Judaism. The baptism pool must use natural running water. So the design team adopted the ancient method of one time concrete pouring, used Jinsha mosaic to cover the pool body and established rainwater recovery equipment on the top square and an underground water storage tank to supply water for the baptism pool.
The project finished in Dec. 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan.
We have boldly subverted the tradition to select the most innovative materials, colors, image expressions, software, and hardware configurations while introducing advanced engineering technology into this synagogue architecture renovation project. At the social influence level, it plays a local cultural role or can even be upgraded into a bridge of cultural exchange between two nations. The spaces are open to the public and not limited to religious gatherings. The buildings art curation, theme activities, lectures and other activities allow more people to learn about Judaism.
The planning time for the entire project is over 800 days, which is a prime example of painstakingly meticulous work. The architectures spaces are filled with spiritual symbolism and artistry. The diversified aesthetic presentation of images, colors, proportions, and humanities aims to cleanse and awaken the mind and merge the senses and then deeply interpret A strong and beautiful lasting relationship between man and God.
The entire project design concept originated from Durers oil painting Praying Hands. The arched lines of the palms in the painting are the source and inspiration of the design. Each interior space units core ideas and artistic details are curvature based. The parabolic and catenary arch lines are ingeniously transitioned to form small arched patterns that appear both randomly and orderly.
