Cinema and Gallery for XU Studio
The project covers an area of 800 square meters, occupying three pillar storefronts facing the mall corridor and open atrium. The designers decorate the facade of the store with the folded mirror stainless steel, and the mirror image changes with the people walking around. Take a pillar of the storefront as the center, and form an arc facade with a radius of 9 meters as the second interface. They intend to weaken the original closed first floor interface of the store, so as to welcome more open attitude and make the indoor and outdoor communication closer.

In addition to the functional format of the on-demand cinema, designers have created an infinitely possible theater for the space. The bar at the entrance is the center of the circle, with a radius of 9 meters, surrounding a semi-circular space, it brings various possibilities for customer operations. In addition to the daily cafe function, this space has hosted movie lecture salons, improvised performances of modern dance, and has been leased by corporate users for product launches.

At the top of the semi-circular area of the entrance, designers decorated with cheap sunlight panels, made curved stainless steel grooves, arrange the light strips, inserted plastic sunlight panels, and after the lights are turned on, the entire sunlight panel was illuminated, making the entire ambient light from blue to green and rose red.
The project is located on the B2 floor of the shopping mall, behind a large staircase. The location is very inconspicuous. Designers wanted to open the entire facade, and make a large interactive projection device at the door to attract customers who pass by in the distance, but not passed by the property owners. Therefore, they made a new attempt under limited conditions, and wrapped the exterior facade of the solid wall with a folded stainless steel mirror surface.
The project started in December 2018 in Shanghai and finished in March 2019 in Shanghai.
The designer used the principle of light projection, so that each cinema number in the form of light projected on the facade and it is the best respect for the space light environment.
In the design process, designers advocated the concept of economy and environmental protection, insisted on using simple and common materials, and made rich and interesting effects through design research. For example, the arc-shaped decorative material suspended in the air, which left a deep impression on customers. Through this experiment and exploration, designers knew that ordinary cheap materials can also create good visual effects and bring interesting experiences to customers.
Nowadays, with the rapid development of network technology, there is less and less person-to-person communication. Although the traditional on-demand cinema feels like a completely private space, designers hope that there will be more communication between people and make the on-demand cinema a new social space. They have added a multifunctional space with a bar as the core. Here, people can sit down for coffee, read a book, buy their favorite videos, hold salon lectures and meet new friends.
