This vacuum cleaner is carefully designed by reframing it as a tool which gives colours to people's daily lives, rather than as a household appliance evaluated by the specifications. Therefore it doesn't have even a powered-brush on the nozzle. Although it is simple and sturdy like commercial equipment, blended in with the household where it is used. Its modest, unobtrusive appearance assumes that it will be placed in a living space. Since it is extremely light (1.25kg) and has good weight balance, it is easy to handle and the user does not tire when using it.

The aim was for a product that, while simple and sturdy like commercial equipment, blended in with the household in which it was used. Its modest, unobtrusive nature assumes that it will be placed in some kind of living space. Since it is extremely light (1.25kg) and has good central balance, it is easy to handle and the user does not tire when using it.

Production Technology
It employs a very small, high performance DC motor that was developed in conjunction with Nidec, which it delivers in a compact package. The simple yet sturdy construction does not just rely on plastic; aluminum is employed for the handle and steel for the stand, and it is easy to dismantle.
Design Challenge
There are so many functional parts in the product, and it was very hard to have it work perfectly and give it balance. Usually electric appliance industry are good at dealing with plastics such as ABS and PP, but not very good at that of other materials and combinations. Most of company use plastics for making a vacuum cleaner including a stand, for example, but we tried to design the stand made of steel, and the handle made of CNC cut aluminum, to apply the right materials to the right places.
Project Duration
The project started in December 2017 and finished in December 2018 in Tokyo and Kyoto.
Operation Flow
One-button-operation. Operation is simple and easy with a button on the grip. Each time the button is pushed, it turns power on with low, medium and high powers. It is turned off by holding down the button. Very light, well balanced and easy to handle. Sophisticated functions such as mechanisms for a dust cup release, and a brush height switch. You can use it with or without T-nozzle and extension pipe, and it can get a variety of forms. It can be stored on the stable stand made of steel.
Research
Got thousand of reviews for the previous model from online shops and SNSs. Got advised by professional cleaning person. Used design research method such as 'Observation' and 'Heuristic evaluation'.
Inspiration
Brooms which are simple, light and easy to handle for cleaning up rooms. Simple and robust like a business-use product, but it blends in with home. Intuitive interface, no excess functions.
