Outfitted with an intelligent route planning system and easily-operated by the app, Simart Katya Robot Vacuum Cleaner scans room perimeters and maps the most efficient cleaning path by using the Laser Distribution Sensor. A suction rating of 3000 Pa and two sweeping brushes combine to ensure a thorough clean. The 6000 mAh battery supports up to 3 working hours, or cleans a 300 sqm housing area. The slim water tank design makes it possible to vacuum and mop at the same time, saving time and energy.

as a mobile and autonomous device, the plastic enclosure on top and bottom body parts make Katya lightweight and help saving the battery use. The top panel is made of In-mold lamination (IML) process to achieve a clean look and makes it more attractive for the consumer. the Laser Distribution Sensor has the ability to rotate 360 degrees to scan the perimeter. To prevent the LDS from damaging, there is a plastic cover on top coupled with a chrome ring to complete the outlook of the top panel.
As the majority of the robot vacuum cleaners have the same form factor and technical specifications, the challenge of the project was to differentiate uniquely from the other products in the market. Our design approach emerged from the idea of showing off the Laser Distribution Sensor (LDS), which is regarded as the most advanced and intelligent part of Katya Robot VC. To make it more visible to the end-user and to emphasise the power, efficiency and intelligence of the device, a chrome ring has been added to the LDS cover. Additionally, the top panel with the distinctive pattern was designed to provide more technology-driven design style.
The project started in November 2020 and finished in May 2021 in Hong Kong
Having a seperate on/off and wifi connection button on its top panel, Simart Katya robot vacuum cleaner can be operated by its smartphone app or its remote control. Once powered on and set-up to initiate, Katya first starts scanning the room perimeters by using its proprietary Laser Distribution Sensor. After mapping the perimeter, robot vacuum cleaner automatically starts cleaning or mobbing the floor. When the battery is low, it returns back to the charging dock to recharge.
In order to understand the expectations of the consumers, a survey amongst the existing robot vacuum cleaner consumers was conducted to point out the attraction points on the device. Additionally the trends in home living environment and competitors in the market were analysed. The findings from the user survey, use environment and market researches were used as data input to create the personas and design directions. After the final design was concluded, prototypes were prepared to test and verify with the real users. The insights from the users were collected to finalise the design before the mass production.
People today are busier than ever and a robot vacuum cleaner, saving more time and effort compared to the traditional vacuum cleaners, can bring extra time and valued to one's life . Having smart functions and being operated by a smartphone app, a robot vacuum cleaner can be set up your to clean home every day of the week. A robot vacuum cleaner is a great addition to a home and provides the users with more time to do the things they enjoy most.
