"Light Up" was inspired by interviews with NPOs and tech leaders, revealing key challenges. These insights led to user personas, driving the design process and prototype refinement via user testing. Developer consultations ensured a robust, scalable system for NPO integration, combining agile development with technical precision, making "Light Up" a powerful tool for digital philanthropy.
The challenge in developing 'Light Up' was to create a trusted, engaging app for young donors, blending a user-friendly interface with features like interactive maps and impact tracking. Simplifying the donation process to show clear impacts was key, as was balancing design with functionality to encourage philanthropy and build community. Prioritizing privacy, we carefully managed interactions and map details to respect beneficiary privacy, reflecting our dedication to a secure, respectful platform.
"Light Up" emerged from a San Francisco hackathon in November 2023. After winning first prize with an initial version developed in a day, we deepened our research and collaborated closely with experts to refine the app. Within weeks, we enhanced "Light Up," preparing it for future development.
"Light Up" launches with vibrant photos, news, and projects, showing donation impacts. Users navigate to an interactive map to explore projects, with details a click away. The chat feature allows direct communication with organizations for updates, enhancing transparency and donor connections.
Our research aimed at connecting young donors and NPOs, tackling engagement and transparency issues. Through interviews and testing, we identified the need for a digital solution like "Light Up" to modernize donation processes. Insights from NALAM highlighted outdated methods, pushing us to create a platform enhancing donor engagement with real-time updates. Developing a persona based on young professional donors guided our design, addressing their desires for impactful giving. "Light Up" revitalizes the donation experience, fostering stronger NPO-donor connections and promoting meaningful philanthropy.
The inspiration for "Light Up" was to connect socially-conscious donors, especially the younger generation, with NPOs needing lasting support. We noted a gap caused by unclear impacts and transparency in donations, despite a strong willingness to help meaningful causes. Our goal was to craft a transparent, trustworthy platform that enhances donor involvement and satisfaction, showing the real impact of donations to encourage ongoing support.
