Time Capsule are loaned to the Machi Library located in MUFG PARK users on an annual basis. Users keep their treasures and family mementos etc. in this package, and set the date and time to open . It would deliver the thoughts and feelings over time to a future self or someone special. The bookshelves in the library tower high into the ceiling, making it impossible for users to reach books at the top. In addition, Japan's unique natural environment, with its frequent earthquakes, makes it impossible to arrange books on high shelves. But to leave the tops of all the bookshelves in a library open would spoil the intellectual atmosphere of the library. For these reasons, I intended to design Time Capsule to look like a book and maintain the atmosphere of the library.

The color scheme and materials were simulated several times, as it was important that the time capsules looked beautiful when lined up in the library space. The boxes were manufactured by Morita Corporation, which can make a combination of machine-made and hand-made parts, because it would be too numerous and expensive to hand-machine them, and too few and expensive to machine them.
This package has been on display for a long time. Therefore, I considered colors that would not easily fade and paper materials that would resist warping.
This project began in June 2022 and finished in June 2023 in Nishi-Tokyo City.
The size and design of the boxes was determined by research into what items people keep carefully at home and what they would like to put in.
In recent years, libraries have been in need of attractive designs. There are more than 1,000 Machi-libraries in Japan, and during the design process, user data was used to understand the needs of users. The time capsule serves not only as a visual design in space, but also as a communication design.
Time Capsule will be displayed like books in the library. Therefore, it was designed to express not only intelligence, but also a sense of fun. As a result, they create a kind of 'movement' in the space with their five-color range, while creating a calm and beautiful atmosphere, like a dictionary.
